Species: Felidae

Type: Cat

Description: What is described here is a generic setting of the Felidae line, these are GMO / Bioandroid constructs of the pet / comfort companion / Monster Mate lines. The term essentially means "cat"; although non save the first type have any true cats in them.

1: Synth-Cats: the most basic of this line, many are in fact modified actual cats. These are custom colors, patterns, smaller or larger *within reason* variations. The most common are gene controlled "pure breds", essentially making the breeds of cats people want on demand bypassing a breeder all together. After which come the unnatural features such as glow in the dark, fur colors not found in nature such as pink, and unusual and even custom fur patterns. There is also a strong demand, especially among the wealthy for "big cats", only they have the personalities of smaller cats or are otherwise made even more docile. Leopards, panthers, tigers, lions, and the like; including like the small breeds custom colors and patterns, blue tigers, pink lions, rainbow colored panthers, and the like.

2: Sphinx: Cats with the heads, faces, and sometimes upper chest of a human. Aside from "human face" the rest are not found in small cats, and even that was found to be "too creepy" for be much of a seller. Although a (parrot) feature is still popular in small cats to imitate human speech and counts as part of the Sphinx line. Larger cat breeds, namely a lion or panther body are more popular with the human head and chest (female breasts usually). Although they were a big hit when initially introduced along side the chimeric lines, there was a touch of the uncanny valley when they moved around *a sphinx statue is one thing* said a report on Monster Mates, *but to see them in action hits some primal fear button to have a stoic human face on a large predator's body*. Although there are still circles that keep the market for the larger sphinx going; the android versions have become more popular than the techno-organic GMO ones as guards. Most Sphinx are found in the homes and collections of the wealthy in deep space as companions.

3: Chimeric: Like the Sphinx line these combine feline traits with other animals, named for the Greek monster (Chimera), this line has many sub-lines, including two crossed over with Sphinx. In its basics, the Chimeric line refers to any GMO, Comfort Companion, or Techno-organic construct whose base form and personality is that of a cat with features of other species present. The Sphinx in essence is really part of this line by this definition, however it predates it in terms of production. The main lines then are.

Altered Sphinx: A Sphinx with bird wings coming out its back, only usable for gliding, although they can produce enough lift to get off the ground with a good run, but not get very high that way.

Chimera classic: A big cat's body with the horns or antlers of a herbivore. This line can also have reptilian features added, and wings on the back of either bird or bat. It is common to find them with snake like tails, for those "collectors" who want to be *true* to the mythical beast it is named after. However the goat head sticking out of the back goes against the form to function laws and is considered cruel so horns on the head were a compromise.

Manticore: Basically the same thing as the Chimera classic, except it has a human face, and may also incorporate arthropod features such as armoring, and scorpion like tail. This was not available to the public and was part of the military's GMO division. Bat winged flying beasts of terror used to fight on other worlds.

4: Nekojin: A humanoid frame with a human/cat hybrid face and fur covered body. Mainly part of the Monster Mates line, with some versions adapted for military use *such as large tiger and lion humanoids*; the domestic sector mainly saw thinner female and "pretty" boy versions made for wealthy individuals. Personality wise they are like cats, however given the case Replicant used for the body they do have ting of predatory instincts and are more like actual big cats than the Synth-cats of big cats, although their programmed safety protocols are in order.

5: Nekomimi: This was never released as a GMO or techno-organic, however a fully mechanical "Doll" version was produced and are popular as greeters, maids, and other rather clearly fetish roles. In the basics, a body that looks exactly human only with cat ears atop the head. Most popular with only the ears and no human ears *but hair covering the sides of the head*, tails are next in popularity, then eyes, paw hands and feet were never practical and aside from a few early models that ended up showing why they didn't work aren't around anymore. There are Splicers who give themselves this look (ears, tails, eyes), so it isn't any wander the companies never released biological versions of these as there would be real people with the same features making the *Simulated Slavery* issue rise up, they dodged this with the android models as robots like this had been around for centuries with the popularity coming and going every other decade or so.
